Lake Bled: Free time to explore the town of Bled and its beautiful surroundings. The Slovenian resort town of Bled nestles in the foothills of the Julian Alps along the emerald green waters of Lake Bled. A trip up to the 11th century Bled Castle will reward you with the finest view of Bled island, the town of Bled and of the wider countryside of the Gorenjska region. A boat trip across the shimmering water to the Bled Island, where once a temple to the ancient Slavic goddess of love Živa used to stand, is a lovely way to spend the day. After the local population was converted from paganism to Christianity in 745, goddess Živa was replaced with the Christian Virgin Mary. In 1465, a single-nave Gothic church was built on the island. The addition of a monumental staircase with 99 stone steps in the 17th century brought with it a local wedding tradition. In order to get married the groom should carry his bride up all of the 99 steps!
Lake Bled: The 6km long trail around Lake Bled is just long enough for a relaxing walk or bike ride. The trail also leads to higher points, noted for their splendid views.

A second earthquake in 1895 resulted in the city's native son, Joze Plecnik, restyling large parts of the city in Neo-Classicist and Secessionist styles.
Ljubljana: Be sure to visit Ljubljana Castle. The castle's Outlook Tower and ramparts offer some of the most beautiful views of the city, while the castle houses a museum exhibition on Slovenian history, a puppet museum, and a number of historical rooms such as the Chapel of St George, the Prison, and a video presentation room called Virtual Castle. Zagreb: The Croatian capital is a glorious Austro-Hungarian city awash with churches, museums and art galleries. The city is divided into upper and lower areas, which in days gone by constituted two separate towns. Now united as one city, each part still retains peculiar characteristics. Standing in the middle of the two halves is the impressive main square, Trg Bana Jelacica. Gorni Grad, the upper town is the oldest part of the city and working your way through the winding cobbled streets is a joy. Climb the Lotrscak Tower, built in the 13th century to protect the city gates and reward yourself with spectacular views over the city.
Zagreb: The lower town, Donji Grad, is known for its elegant squares, gardens, wide boulevards and parks. A funicular railway links both parts of the city. It is in the lower town that most of the city's numerous museums are located. Explore the museums and discover the history, art and culture of both Zagreb and Croatia and the rest of the world to boot.
